Best of Blog Challenge 2009 – Blog Find of the Year

For day seven of the Best of Blog Challenge 2009 we’re supposed to describe the best blog “find” of the year.  I have to detail two blogs that I love that I didn’t know existed before 2009.  Zen Habits by Leo Babauta and The Bloggess by Jenny Lawson.

I found Zen Habits after finding Leo Babauta on Twitter.  I don’t recall if Leo followed me or someone in my twitter stream retweeted one of his posts, but I can say that the first article grabbed me and I found that Leo’s style really fit with my sensibilities.  He has a simple yet earnest style that really resonates.  His whole thing is about giving people a guide to living their lives with a little or a lot less which means more time/money/etc for what matters most: family and personal time. One of my favorite posts of his dealt with how to deal with your fears.  This was one of the first posts I read from Zen Habits.  It really spoke to me.  In fact, it was partly from this post that I shortly after conquered a fear whilst on a kayaking trip with friends.  More about this in an upcoming Blog Challenge post.

I found The Bloggess also thru a link on Twitter. Jenny gives me some of the biggest laughs I’ve ever had.  She does this week in and week out.  She manages to make almost every thing funny, including Aids (warning, this link includes a LOT of “adult” humor, don’t say I didn’t warn ya!).  One of the first posts I ever read from The Bloggess was a post about having a second child and why it wasn’t a good idea for her to have another child.  I truly don’t know how she manages to be SO creative and entertaining with each post, but she is and she does.  So, as long as you’re not offended by sex, drugs, and a non-stop potty mouth, I must recommend The Bloggess with all my heart.
