I can answer this challenge topic quite unequivocally.  The album that is rocking my world these days is Careless Love by Madeleine Peyroux.  I recently discovered this album after first hearing a couple different Madeleine Peyroux songs on my Squirrel Nut Zippers station on Pandora – the internet radio “station”.  If you’re not familiar with Ms. Peyroux’s work, I can describe her as a cross between Ella Fitzgerald or Billie Holiday and Joan Baez or Melissa Etheridge.

She can sing.  She plays guitar.  She writes her own songs.  Her voice has a slightly deep and haunting quality to it.  Musically, she is definitely much closer to Billie Holiday or Ella Fitzgerald.  Her songs tend to cover romantic themes both positive and negative.  The songs on Careless Love that really speak to me are: Dance Me to the End of Love, Don’t Wait Too Long, Don’t Cry Baby, Lonesome Road and Weary Blues.  She also sings a track completely in french: J’Ai Deux Amours.  This song literally drips with romance and a joy for love.  Even though I don’t speak any french, I get a real sense of a romantic spirit within the song.
